AT&T, Express, Boldt & RedHawks ‘Bring ‘em Home’ by Building City’s First-Ever Movable Habitat for Humanity House

Two-Week ‘Blitz Build’ began June 19, 2006, outside AT&T Bricktown Ballpark

The AT&T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT&T Inc., Express Services Inc., Boldt Construction, and the Oklahoma RedHawks teamed up in mid-June, 2006, with Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity to build a three-bedroom house in a parking lot outside the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Local Habitat officials, RedHawks players and volunteers from the sponsoring companies kicked off the “Bring ‘em Home” project June 19 with the start of construction on a 1,050-square-foot house in the parking lot directly east of the Ballpark.

The two-week “blitz build” house was completed July 3 and then moved a few days later - by Don Gray of Economy House Moving - to its permanent location in southeast Oklahoma City. The keys to the new home were presented to the new homeowner at a special ceremony just before the July 4 RedHawks game.

This first-of-its-kind project was funded by donations of $50,000 from the AT&T Foundation and $28,000 from Express Services. Boldt Construction, which oversaw the building of the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, contributed its engineering expertise to the project.

Habitat Homebuyer

Stefanie C., single mom of two children, Ira, and Whitney, worked for an auto dealer for years and resided in a lower-income area in Norman.  When Habitat's Selection Committee researcher  visited the Craven family's home, he saw that the rent house was clean and neatly organized, with "bare-bones" furnishings.   Stefanie was very excited about her new home being blitz built by the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark group, and she is thrilled now to be taking care of this first home of her own.  “It [is] so good to be able to raise my children in a home that can be kept cool in the summer and warm in the winter," she said, "in a safe neighborhood where guns and drugs are not around”.

Many thanks to all to helped make this happy home possible!
