FIRST LADY’S BLITZ BUILD sponsored by DEVON and CHESAPEAKE ENERGY

Oklahoma First Lady Kim Henry got 2006 off to a bang chairing Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity’s 2006 First Lady’s Build, with Chesapeake Energy and Devon underwriting the project.

Soon after sunrise on January 14, the Governor and First Lady gathered on the northwest Oklahoma City site with staff from the First Lady's Office, Saxum Strategic Communications, and other community volunteers to ask God for a safe, successful build.

The Governor worked all day with the First Lady and other volunteers to frame the house, and Ms. Henry returned daily to help volunteers complete the home throughout the entire two-week build.

The home in northwest Oklahoma City was completed and dedicated on January 28.  Its new owners, Joseph and Vickie Crim, accepted the keys to their new home from Central Oklahoma Habitat board chair Ann Felton with a great deal of emotion and satisfaction.  The Crims had been volunteering for many months on others’ homes to complete their 300 required hours of “sweat equity,” and they finished their last hours working alongside other volunteers helping to build their own home.

Central Oklahoma Habitat would like to extend our deepest gratitude to First Lady Kim Henry for her outstanding leadership on this project, to Chesapeake Energy and Devon for their most generous contributions to fund construction of this home, and to Governor Henry, the First Lady and her staff, Saxum Strategic Communications, and all the other volunteers who participated for their love and labor given to this worthwhile effort!

Thank you!
