OKLAHOMA CITY,
OK (June 13, 2007) – This Saturday, June 16,
volunteers from Senator Jim Inhofe’s
office, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka,
and HUD in Oklahoma City will raise walls
on a new Habitat home as part of the Congress
Building America program adopted under
concurrent resolutions of the U. S. Senate
(Resolution 43) and House (Resolution 184). The
program draws awareness to the lack of quality
affordable housing across the country for lower
income families, and Habitat for Humanity
affiliates are answering that problem by
partnering with their local members of Congress
to build energy efficient, quality affordable
homes for families in need.
“One in eight
families in the Oklahoma City metro is still
living below the poverty level,” said Ann
Felton, Chairman and CEO of Central Oklahoma
Habitat, “one in three if the householder
is a single mother. Senator Inhofe has been
very effective in helping us raise funds for a
Senate House locally, and we are very grateful
for his support.”
The Federal Home
Loan Bank of Topeka has contributed $10,000
towards the cost of this Central Oklahoma
Habitat project, and a number of the Bank’s
staff will join other volunteers from Senator
Inhofe’s office and the Oklahoma City office of
HUD to frame the house Saturday. HUD volunteers
will complete the home over the next several
weeks.
